I was privileged to be present when 80-year old Dr Pandit Vyas played the Rudra Veena for a packed concert hall at the India International Center. 🎟 Veenas are stringed instruments used to play raags, mystical, musical pieces called from the Universe and translated into a sound the audience can become immersed in. The veena is a kind of being manifested as a gourd attached to strings. The Rudra Veena literally means Shiva’s veena. Shiva is the Lord of Destruction and Yoga. He is both an ascetic and a householder. His veena is inspired by his wife, the Goddess Parvati - the Mother goddess signifying love and devotion. Parvati inspired the creation of Shiva’s veena hence it produces invokes the vibration that feels like devotion, love and deep meditation. The Rudra Veena has been played for over 500 years by the Dagar family whose students are among the few humans left who know the Rudra Veena - Shiva’s instrument. It was something I will never forget. #yoga #music #india #dehli #shiva #rudraveena #parvati #meditation #musicofthespheres #incredibleindia
